While photographing these soon to be parents, I couldn’t help but notice, in every move they made, every glance they offered, every giggle they shared, what absolute wonderful parents they are going to make. I know their home is going to be full of love, full of laughter, and full of more love. . . that is very apparent in their images. . . baby, you are so lucky. ..

This little sweetie came in to see me today, and while I was not at my best with this horribly uncomfortable cold, I do have to say that just photographing her made me feel a little bit better!! Her eyes twinkle like stars, and then her mouth follows in this extremely cute smile. By the end of the session it wasn’t smiles I was trying for (didn’t have to try at all for those!), it was her eyelashes!!!

The last 27 hours have gone by like a whirlwind for me. You see, our family of 4 had a scare yesterday that could have changed our lives forever, had we not been so lucky. I don’t really want to go into the gruesome details, except to say, it was the scariest sight I have ever seen. I trust that everything is going to be alright, but the thoughts that I’m left with, that filled my head as I went to sleep lastnight, was nothing less than an extreme sense of thankfulness. And luck. And the inkling that someone was watching.
It’s a wakeup call, I know it is. It’s that thing that happens when you need to be told to slow down, pay attention to the things that really matter. Prioritize. Why, just yesterday, before my day was turned upside down, I photographed a little family that was finally able to fit it into their schedules. Not for lack of trying on their part, just, life. It gets in the way. But its sometimes the part of life that should take a back seat more often. I had the conversation with this mom that I, the one who’s always behind the camera, was guilty of not making time to get proper family portraits done. I know I need to, and just said it yesterday, that this week, we’re gonna get the boys haircuts and do some photos.

And then yesterday afternoon happened. I was sick. That was the most horrible phone call I have received. ever. It brings me to tears just thinking about it. But you know what? I have a renewed sense of whats important. Though I knew it all along, family is important. Making memories with your family is important. Don’t put it off. Quit making excuses. Even if you can’t afford professional photography, get your camera on a tripod, or even a table top, and use the self timer to get EVERYONE in the shot. TOGETHER.

You never know, it might just be the last time you have the chance.
