I photographed big brother when he was just 3 or 4 months old, and now he’s back with his baby brother, and I am so smitten with both of them!! The blond curls, I’m sure they’ll both have – here’s a shot from big brother’s baby session 2 years ago:

Today was all about baby number 2 for the “M” family. This baby’s arrival is only a few short weeks away, and I must say, I was a wee bit nervous about hubby leaving for her “just me” shots. Please don’t go into labor, please don’t go into labor. She didn’t go into labor This was also my first time meeting big sister and daddy, and they were both well behaved and very sweet I can see that baby #2 is going to be a breeze, mama is going to have a super helper in big sister. Now. . . lets bring on baby!

Yesterday I got to play in the studio. But not with my camera, and not in my studio. Yesterday was all about helping someone else, being someone else’s guinea pig. I was up for it, but I was nervous. Nervous about her abilities? Heck no. Nervous I would look ridiculous? Yup. I’m NEVER in front of the camera. The only photos of myself I like are when I’m completely natural but not many people in my circle know how, or WHEN to take a good picture of me.
I had recently snapped some iphone selfies fresh out of the salon chair, to show off my new hairdo. You know, you’re excited and want to show everyone right? So I set up my lights, and just did an available light session, no strobes. I thought it looked ok. But something was wrong. I looked too serious. I hate it when I look too serious! So when Bonnie (www.traditionsphoto.ca) asked me to model for her I accepted the challenge. Lol, that’s what I thought of it anyways. I might like some of the shots. I like A LOT of the shots. I like to be photographed! Yay! Finally over that roadblock! But wow. It’s hard work making sure I don’t move a muscle once I get it in the right place! Easy for me to say “don’t move a muscle”, not so easy not to move! I now have a whole new appreciation for my clients and what I put them through. . . especially my boudoir clients. I am sore in places I didn’t know I was using. It was hard to get out of bed this morning, my muscles hurt so much. Yes, I did some pretty fancy stances during my shoot, something similar to what I would ask of my own clients. It was hard, but it was oh so worth it. So much so I may do it again.

And here are some of my favorites, and I’m laughing or being a goofball in a couple of them, but I love them, because it’s me. And I’m ok with the fact my nose scrunches up when I laugh a certain way. I’m ok with that. And now I’m ok with being photographed. {lol, as long as you, the photographer, know what you’re doing }

3 years ago I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful, sweet little girl, who is now a big sister to this gorgeous little fella! Time goes by so quickly, it’s so important to make sure you are capturing each and every moment of it. Which leads me to this point – photographing your child every day – I wish more people would make a point of learning how to use that camera that’s just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. This lucky little pair, have the most amazing mommy and daddy, who really do know how to use their camera, and I am always so happy to see a new album pop up on my facebook feed. Whether you have a point and shoot, or a dslr, get it and the manual out and get learning that thing!! It’s going to make your kids very happy some day. I’ve heard that children who see themselves in lots of photos feel more loved.
