The last 27 hours have gone by like a whirlwind for me. You see, our family of 4 had a scare yesterday that could have changed our lives forever, had we not been so lucky. I don’t really want to go into the gruesome details, except to say, it was the scariest sight I have ever seen. I trust that everything is going to be alright, but the thoughts that I’m left with, that filled my head as I went to sleep lastnight, was nothing less than an extreme sense of thankfulness. And luck. And the inkling that someone was watching.
It’s a wakeup call, I know it is. It’s that thing that happens when you need to be told to slow down, pay attention to the things that really matter. Prioritize. Why, just yesterday, before my day was turned upside down, I photographed a little family that was finally able to fit it into their schedules. Not for lack of trying on their part, just, life. It gets in the way. But its sometimes the part of life that should take a back seat more often. I had the conversation with this mom that I, the one who’s always behind the camera, was guilty of not making time to get proper family portraits done. I know I need to, and just said it yesterday, that this week, we’re gonna get the boys haircuts and do some photos.

And then yesterday afternoon happened. I was sick. That was the most horrible phone call I have received. ever. It brings me to tears just thinking about it. But you know what? I have a renewed sense of whats important. Though I knew it all along, family is important. Making memories with your family is important. Don’t put it off. Quit making excuses. Even if you can’t afford professional photography, get your camera on a tripod, or even a table top, and use the self timer to get EVERYONE in the shot. TOGETHER.

You never know, it might just be the last time you have the chance.

We went out to the lake earlier than we usually do, and between two boats we packed a bunch of fun in for the evening ~

we welcome a new ski into the family, isn’t it cute? :)

As I sit here, about to upload several new photos from yesterdays waterskiing fun, I wonder to myself, will my kids appreciate that I made these photos for them, when they are older? Do they know how much work I could get done while they’re on the lake having fun? Do they miss me when I don’t go? Most of all, I think to myself, wow, this housework of mine SURE IS PILING UP!!  It may be, but the moments I capture of them, in their last bits of summer freedom, is worth more than a clean floor to me. So, friends and family, if you happen to drop by some day, and my floors are dirty or I have a pile of laundry on the stairs, please excuse the mess. And thats all I have to say about that :) Enjoy the photos!

This summer has been full of boat rides, waterskiing, teaching kids to waterski, tubing and just plain ol’ family fun. . .

Looks a bit less snowy than this, but the appearance of breaking water is always a good sign. Hopefully it will continue. . . I know I’m not the only one tired of all this white stuff.
